Guide Dogs of America

Over the weekend, I had the chance to visit Guide Dogs of America headquarters in Sylmar, CA.

I’ve always been fascinated by service dogs.  They are some of the most intelligent and loyal dogs in the world, happily dedicating their lives to the service of an individual person.  Guide dogs make a huge difference in the lives of the seeing impaired and these puppies were taking a break from intensive training, preparing to one day change someone’s life.

Coalition for Pets & Public Safety

I had the pleasure to once again shoot a Coalition for Pets & Public Safety spay and neuter event.  They are a non-profit organization committed to reducing pet overpopulation by providing low cost – and sometimes even free – services to residents of the Los Angeles area.

No one likes to hear about pet euthanasia.  But altering dogs and cats is the most effective way to reduce this problem.  It is, therefore, our responsibility as pet owners to have all of our pets spayed or neutered.  The Coalition for Pets & Public Safety is making it easy for those in southern California.  I would encourage you to look in your local area for a similar organization.

Duke the Gentleman Boxer

Duke is a gentlemanly ten-year-old boxer who loves his mom and dad so much it would be sickening if it weren’t so sweet.  And they feel exactly the same way about him.

We headed up to Malibu on a wonderful spring day to a dog-friendly restaurant and ranch where Aurora and John had brought Duke before.  We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful location or more perfect weather!

Latest Santa Monica Adoptables

Oh my goodness, so many amazing dogs have come through the Santa Monica Animal Shelter during the last couple of weeks.  They are all looking for homes and are all fantastic pets in their own unique ways.

Always keep in mind that your local shelter has dogs of so many sizes, breeds, ages, and temperaments.  You don’t need to go to a breeder to find your perfect future pet – there are already so many at the shelter.  Plus, many are already trained and housebroken, and all are forever grateful that you gave them a home and lots of love.

Hello,
I just wanted to say that your work is very inspirational. I want to volunteer as a photographer at an animal shelter as well, and am practicing with my camera. I live close to Santa Monica so I think I’ll pay a visit to the Santa Monica shelter soon.

Thank you very much! Yes, volunteering at an animal shelter is such a great experience. You should let me know when you’re stopping by the shelter. If I’m there, I’d love to say hi!
