Arizona Cousin Meetup

My doggie son, Chubs, and my sister’s doggie children, Gracie and Rufio finally got to meet a couple weeks ago in sunny Arizona!

They all have their different personalities, but they got alone splendidly.  Gracie was crazy for the ball, despite the 90+ degree weather.  Chubs preferred to lounge in the sun.  And tiny Rufio just tried to keep up!

52 Project: Location

I just joined a blog circle with a group of great pet photographers from all over the world.  We call it the “52 Project” – every week, a topic is chosen by a member and we each do a shoot to represent that theme.

For the photographers, it encourages us to go out and practice with a specific idea in mind, helping us to constantly improve.  For the readers, it exposes you to other great photography from a diverse group of amazing pet photographers.

This week, the topic is “Location.”  So over the weekend, I shot a pug party (with some other doggie friends) and was sure to keep my surroundings in mind at all times.

Enjoy!

Dogs of the South LA Shelter

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to once again photograph shelter animals for the Lu Parker Project.  Emmy Award-winning journalist for KTLA, Lu Parker is a huge advocate for homeless animals.  She organized “Project Picture,” an all-volunteer group that heads to the South LA Animal Shelter every other weekend to help shelter animals look their best for their big photo.

These are some of this week’s amazing dogs!

Santa Monica Doggies

There’s never any shortage of awesome dogs that can be adopted from the Santa Monica Animal Shelter.

And, hey, last time I checked, it’s officially summer!  This is a great time to adopt a dog.  The weather is perfect for spending quality time with your new dog outdoors.  Or perhaps you have kids who are out of school and can teach their new companion some fun tricks.

Whatever your reason, don’t overlook your local shelter.  If you don’t think you can find a dog you like, I’ll bet that you’ll actually have a hard time choosing just one.

Santa Monica Cats & Kittens

It’s kitten season at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter!  There are lots of litters with many different kittens to choose from.  And when adopting kittens, taking two is often best.  They love to play together and will continue to grow as best friends.

But…don’t forget about the adult cats!  Keep in mind that kittens require a lot of attention and many people would be much happier with a companion who is a bit more independent and relaxed (read: not crazy).  The shelter has many cats to choose from, as well, in a variety of breeds, sizes, and ages.
