Mushu and Felix the Cats

It’s been a while since I had the pleasure of doing a cat session.  And I love cats!  So I was really excited to get back into the kitty game.

Mushu, the adorably-named, outgoing orange tabby, and Felix, the shy but wonderfully charming tuxedo cat, were the greatest of models.  Their mom couldn’t have loved them more, and we had so much fun rolling around their floor with them.

52 Project: Pets and People

This week’s theme in the pet photography blog circle known as 52 Project is “Pets and People.”  The goal is to focus on that special bond people have with pets.

My photo this week is once again from the Santa Monica Animal Shelter where I love volunteering weekly.  There are so many great people who spend their free time making the lives of these shelter animals a little bit better until they find their forever home.

High school student, Nicole, comes to the shelter after school to help clean both the animals and their cages.  And just a couple days after her bath, this little chihuahua was adopted!

52 Project: Accessorized

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for the pet photography blog circle known as 52 Project!

This week’s theme is “Accessorized.”  We can interpret that any way we’d like, whether it be accessories we use as photographers, dog costumes, play toys, etc.

Since I volunteer weekly at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter, I thought I’d use some of the new dog toys that pop up all the time from friendly donors.  Sometimes at my shoots, the dog toy is used in the image…and sometimes it’s used behind the camera to get a trio of puppies to give chase!

Another fabulous job Sharon!

Sandy Pants

On a cool, summer morning that looked more like autumn, Sandy and her mom, Kelley, met me at a park in Universal City, CA, just steps away from Universal Studios.

One would expect that a photo session with a twelve-year-old cockapoo would be easy and relaxed.  But with all of the running, jumping, and ball chasing, you would never have guessed Sandy’s age.  By the end of the shoot, I felt as if I’d been chasing around a puppy all day!  And even though mom Kelley is her bestest friend forever, I was pretty popular with my bag o’ treats.  I’m not above buying love with dehydrated chicken…

Sharon is the bestest! She followed this crazy dog everywhere! She took pictures running one handed! It was like watching a samurai movie, only her camera was her sword. And when a photographer is willing to gather leaves for a particular shot, well, nuff said. Amazing!

52 Project: Personal Work

This week in the pet photography blog circle known as 52 Project, the theme is “Personal Work.”  We’re open to shoot anything, even with (gasp) no pets!

Being both a professional photographer and my own family’s photographer, I very rarely have photos taken of myself.  So, I decided to attempt a self-portrait.

This one is an homage to my film and television background, a time when my friends and I would run around making short movies on the weekends. Pictured here is my cute little Kodak Brownie 8mm film camera, used for many a music video.
