52 Project: Favorite Toy

It’s Friday, and that means it’s time for another installment of 52 Project, the blog circle from pet photographers all over the world!  This week’s theme is “Favorite Toy.”

I just got the chance to photograph a doggie reunion set up by Happy Angels Dog Rescue.  A couple of years ago, four homeless siblings were shipped from South Korea to southern California to find their forever homes.  And on a wonderful autumn afternoon, all four reunited for a day of fun and play!

This little girl, Mayzie, was completely obsessed with her tennis ball, her favorite toy in the entire world.

Great action shot!

Sweet Sahara

I recently had the honor of photographing the wonderfully sweet Sahara.  Sadly, she passed away on Sunday.  Adorably petite with the colors of the Sahara desert, she was 17 years old and suffering from kidney failure.  Her mom had noticed a change in her behavior over the past year and wanted some photographs of her while she was still happy and active.  As much as the illness and death of a beloved pet is so difficult, it’s an added tragedy to realize there are no photographs to remember them by in a happier stage of their life.

Sahara was the queen to a household of cats that also includes the very curious & personable Little Mama, the shy & sweet Baby, and the independent Momo.  She is greatly missed by her mom and her lovely cat family.

Autumn Shelter Dogs

Autumn at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter has been wonderful.  Our southern California weather is perfect, and there have been a lot of adoptions as people get back into their regular post-summer lives.

There are always new dogs that need loving homes, however.  And, as usual, they come in a huge variety of breeds, sizes, ages, and temperaments.  Even if you don’t live in the Santa Monica area, go visit your local shelter.  You’re sure to find your next furry friend there.

52 Project: Contentment

Hello, it’s time for another installment of 52 Project, the blog circle that includes the work of pet photographers worldwide!  This week’s topic is “Contentment.”

I often feel that Chubs’ life is the definition of contentment.  He may disagree when I refuse to give him parts of my dinner.  But the image below is a look into his daily morning ritual.  After his walk and his breakfast, he settles into his Southern California sunbeam until he gets too hot to stand it.

Now continue on with the circle and check out the great work of For the Love ~ Pet Photography in Portland, Oregon!

Love this shot! My parents dogs do the same thing :)

Foxy the Puppy

Foxy is a sweet little pup (Dachshund/Husky mix, if you can believe it!) who was adopted by her parents from my stomping grounds, the Santa Monica Animal Shelter.  She’s energetic, loving, and super cute.  And though her parents have only been in her life for three months, they are already obsessed with each other!  You know it’s a perfect match when you can see that her parents were so lucky to find her, and she was so lucky to find them.
